The Gulf High School Color Guard is an award winning performing ensemble that specializes in spinning various equipment and performance weapons, such as flags, rifles, and sabers. Besides performing with the GHS Marching Band, the Color Guard also participates in Indoor Guard (a.k.a. Winter Guard) activities. Annually, they are assessed for their indoor performance for the Florida Bandmasters Association’s District and State Solo & Ensemble Music Performance Assessment. For the past 19 years, our color guard has earned the top rating of ‘Superior’ at their District Assessment 15 times under the sponsorship of Mrs. Rutherford, who is an alumnus of the GHS Color Guard where she served as captain for 2 years. For the fourth time in four years in March of 2014, our varsity color guard received a ‘Superior’ at the Florida Bandmasters Association’s State Solo & Ensemble MPA in Cape Coral. For the second time, our rifle ensemble received a ‘Superior’ at FBA State Solo & Ensemble as well.
